The Position

Kaufman, Hall & Associates, LLC, is seeking consultants at varying levels to join the Physician Enterprise practice. Primary responsibilities include developing the key hypothesis, designing supporting analyses, and completing analytical work product used to drive the client’s decision making. Consultants will have exposure to multiple clients at any given time and will attend on-site meetings with health system/medical groups and system-level senior management and Board members as appropriate. The essential functions of the position are:

  • Help create and apply industry-leading solutions to the most challenging strategic and organizational issues facing our clients
  • Develop analytical fact-based research, thought leadership and best practices to support strategic decisions in a client-ready format
  • Collect and analyze data to ensure analytical findings fully and accurately identify opportunities
  • Providing excellent project management to ensure successful outcomes from both Kaufman Hall and our clients’ perspectives
  • Conduct interviews with physician and medical group leaders, and health system’s administration, managing, validating, and organizing data collected both from clients, as well as third party vendors
  • Keep Managers apprised of projects to ensure critical milestones are met, timelines are adhered to, and changes are properly communicated 
  • Build presentations and completed work product to be presented to clients and Board members
  • Develop a quantitative and qualitative foundation to help client leadership make informed decisions relative to their physician enterprise 
  • Enable long term sustainability of owned and affiliated physician relationships and performance which includes physician staffing, operations, revenue cycle, and facilities
  • Create action plans that define the detailed initiatives necessary to address key opportunities/issues within the physician enterprise, including timing, sequencing, and implementation responsibilities
  • Develop physician compensation programs that achieve a delicate balance between productivity and value-based incentives while recognizing organizational culture and financial viability

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess progressive experience in and a passion for the healthcare industry, with previous consulting (specifically within physician enterprise) experience preferred.  We are seeking highly motivated individuals with a strong history of academic excellence and leadership, personally and professionally. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • An understanding of key healthcare trends, information sources, strategic planning, and finance.
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills 
  • Ability to apply analytical frameworks to support key questions facing our clients including assessment of organizational positioning across key dimensions such as quality, cost, access, and competitive positions
  • A self-starter who can work well independently. Possesses a high level of self- confidence and an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Strong people management and client relationship skills
  • An engaged individual who has excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; able to present effectively to senior management/boards, both digitally and in person.
  • Possesses a high degree of integrity and strong moral and ethical standards.  A straight shooter who is honest, upfront, and professionally mature.
  • A true team player who is collaborative, flexible, and able to handle ambiguity
  • Demonstrable project management experience in a fast-paced environment including the ability to manage a diverse set of 4-6 simultaneous engagements including strategy, governance, and operations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • MBA or advanced degree in Healthcare-related field preferred

Physical Requirements 

  • Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations.
  • Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing, seeing, and typing.
  • Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and PowerPoint slides; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
  • Work does require regular travel via automobiles and planes including overnight stays in hotels.

Work Environment 

  • Travel Required: 50% or more
  • When not traveling to a client site, the role is remotely based (home office) 
  • Work is regularly performed in a combination of home office and client settings and routinely uses office equipment (e.g. laptops, printers and presentation equipment)
  • The work will require a productive home office environment and reasonable proximity to a commercial airport for work related travel
